Sibu Swan Statue

Sibu is the third largest division in Sarawak, after Kuching and Miri. it is named after the rambutan fruit, known as “buah sibau” in the Iban language. Sibu division has three districts, namely Sibu, Kanowit and Selangau and the Sibu town is the capital of Sibu district. There are many statues of swans erected around Sibu , this particular one erected near the Sibu Wharf Terminal is the most famous.

Between 1999 to 2004, the Sibu Municipal Council decided to adopt the swan as a symbol of Sibu to inspire the people to work towards the goal of becoming a city in future. Since then this statue was erected near the Sibu wharf terminal and another one located in the town centre . It is not considered a work of art and there is no plaque to indicate who made the statue. It is meant to be a decorative element for the town centre and a tourist spot for photographs to be taken with it the mighty Rajang river as background.
