Istana Melawati Putrajaya

image

Poised resplendently at the highest point in Putrajaya, at 125m above sea level, this palace is the royal retreat for His Majesty the King of Malaysia and members of the royal family. It is one of the first sights that will greet visitors who are driving in from Kuala Lumpur.

The current Yang di-Pertuan Agong has its own palace in the administrative city. It is not an official palace but a royal retreat for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. The official palace is still Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur. Istana Melawati is unique because it?s styled like a resort. The palace comprises of four major components: the Administrative Block, Royal Wing, Banquet Wing and Reception Wing.

You will notice that at the centre and side of the Istana Melawati, there are three tall towers with prominent structures. The towers signify old guard towers, normally found in medieval Malay palaces. The main feature of the palace is its Royal Wing. It has a throne room, bedroom, main meeting room, resting room, gallery, banquet room, guest house, offices, kitchen and a swimming pool.
