Divert from the thick of things in Kuala Lumpur and head to Selangor for relax
A holiday in Selangor promises non-stop fun, entertainment and adventure. This is one of the most prosperous and developed states in the country. Selangor is also known as the ‘gateway to Malaysia’ because the main entry points are situated within the state. Its flourishing urban centres such as Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Sunway and Klang abound with modern facilities, from excellent healthcare institutions, international colleges to huge shopping malls and recreational centres. Experience the broad spectrum of attractions – marvel at the glow of fireflies, watch intriguing festivals, have a terrific time at the theme parks, go on a shopping spree or enjoy the sights and sounds of nature.
In 1974 Selangor’s sultan ceded KL as a federal territory, and Shah Alam took over the role of capital of Selangor. In the late 1990s, Putrajaya was also cleaved off from Selangor and built up as Malaysia’s federal administrative capital. Around Kuala Lumpur is the state of Selangor, an area that grew rich on tin and today is Malaysia’s wealthiest and most developed state. While the emphasis in this region is clearly on industry, information technology and administration, there are a number of sites well worth visiting.
Teeming jungles, fishing villages and seaside resorts are scattered across the states of Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, in easy reach of high-octane Kuala Lumpur. Selangor’s top attractions are barely outside the city limits, such as the staggering Batu Caves and orderly administrative capital Putrajaya. Kuala Selangor wins hearts with its fireflies and unhurried village culture unfolds on islands around Klang. Lost-in-time Bukit Fraser (Fraser’s Hill) is almost hidden by the encroaching jungle.
